Best USB Midi Keyboard to use with Reason 4?

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

Question by Benny: Best USB Midi Keyboard to use with Reason 4?
I just got Reason 4, and need a USB Midi Keyboard to help with producing. Mainly I want to make Trance/techno type music. Can you recommend me a good one? I know nothing about USB keyboards.

I’m looking to spend no more than $ 150.

And whats the difference between a controller and a keyboard? thanks.

Hi Mulder,
Personally i would record my guitar (flat, no FX) with a microphone directly into my computer in .WAV file format, then copy-paste in the Reason 3.0 and add whatever FX you need. I’m giving you this solution because you do not give any more details (guitar amp.-preamp-wires ???).
I do not work with these virtual machines. I record my things in an external recording studio (zoom MRS series) then download the post production in my comp to finalize the file quality (.WAV at 1411 KBPS). Good luck !

Question by Ant: I would like to know of a good MIDI controller for beginners that runs with reason 3.?
I was looking at the KORG MicroKONTROL only because I saw it on the propellerheads website. Though it seems to have impressive features im really looking for something simple and cheap… between $ 70 and $ 100 dollars? Is it possible to go and buy a basic keyboard with a USB port on the back and use that? Any help is really appreciated thank you.

I am in the same boat. I hear Nord makes in general the best ones right now but most of their stuff runs for over the budget you have got.

How do you overcome latency in Reason 3.0 if running MIDI to parallel port on a PC?

Question by Ryan F: How do you overcome latency in Reason 3.0 if running MIDI to parallel port on a PC?
I have a PC and a kawai midi controller, but I am having major latency issues in controlling the software. I am running directly from the back of the keyboard into the parallel/game port. Would a USB cable be better..I have read that it is worse. Is there a setting I don’t know about?

Latency in itself is not a problem. Latency is how your computer can seemingly multitask, giving set time to certain operation/processes. Check drivers, I bet that is the problem. Try the USB, worth a shot, if latency is the problem then moving to the USB will work fine

How do i record into reason 3.0 using my korg triton le?

Best answer:

Answer by brazilianloser
you got two options: one get a interface that will connect you keyboard to you computer, on this option you will only be able to use sounds of you triton for recording the other option would be conecting you keyboard through the usb port and using as a control, on this option it will control sounds on reason… but step by step if you still need help you should contact reason’s customer service

Is the cheapest possible MIDI keyboard really the same thing as using an expensive one for this program?

Any suggestions on which MIDI keyboard to buy?

Is there any way to use the computer keyboard that I’m typing on in place of a MIDI music keyboard?

It really depends on if you are a good player or if you will just be using it to avoid programming with the mouse?

Personally I use a Studio Logic fully weighted 88 key keyboard, but that’s because I like the feel of a piano weighted keyboard. But if you aren’t actually a keyboard player it wont make a huge difference to you. For use with reason the Novation Remote SL Series are ideal for reason as the controller knobs all work seamless ly with reason and event he readouts change display what they are controlling.
