Is Propellerhead Reason’s sound library better than a high end keyboard’s?

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

Question by Steve P: Is Propellerhead Reason’s sound library better than a high end keyboard’s?
Is Propellerhead Reason’s sound library better than that of which you would find on a high end keyboard like a Korg triton or a Roland Fantom G-6, G-7 or G-8?

Dude I would go for a Triton or a Fantom any day.

If you already have a midi controller would be okay because then you could control the synthesizers wit the controller and a midi interface.

If you don’t have a controller then I would buy a keyboard first because it’s really awkward and hard to jsut use Reason since your keyboard is not velocity sensitive. It would also be weird cause you couldn’t play notes and stuf right.

Furthermore computers can have latency problems and stuff can just sound weird. A keyboard however won’t have certain problems.

BTW Tritons and Fantoms are nIIIICCCEEEEEEE!!!!!

Reason’s sound library is excellent and recorded by some of the world’s top studio musicians. However, they key for reason users is the sound treatment, sequencing, midi and mixing capability all in one. The reason sound library is pretty big at just over 1Gb so you will always find samples you can work with – loops on the other hand, not the most comprehensive of array however plenty of other sound-banks out there can be plugged in. The only main issue is; if you are a serious keyboard player/pianist, there will be an element of output latency in reason (unless you spend a small fortune on a very high end pc) which, for live sets is no use – a high end keyboard is designed without latency – so for live sets is my recommendation. For it’s overall capability and functionality though I would always recommend reason – the possibilities are endless…
