When Reason is in Rewire mode it should NOT allow you to connect directly with any USB or other audio interfaces. So, it’s doing what it is supposed to do.

Reason is the “Rewire Client”, and it is attached to Pro Tools which is the “Rewire Host”. Audio and Midi Stream back and forth between the Rewire Client and the Rewire Host.

In other words:
MIDI keyboard sending out MIDI notes—> Pro Tools Instrument Track —-> MIDI from Pro Tools goes to Reason via Rewire —-> Back fom Reason to Pro Tools Instrument track as Audio via Rewire —-> Out to your speakers/headphones

Here is a step by step tutorial including pictures for using Reason with Pro Tools..

Pretty specific product and question, and not entirely related to computer networks. You may try the manufacturer support at

Can 2 Propellerhead Reason files plug into rewire?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

Question by litewait: Can 2 Propellerhead Reason files plug into rewire?
I was wondering if a friend and I were making a song in 2 separate reason files, can they be plugged into rewire so they are synced when playing?

for example if i were doing the drums in one reason on one laptop & he was doing the bass on another, he emailed me his reason file, i then opened it and played it with my reason file.

i know i can do this but with Reason and Garageband rewired but i was looking to use reason.

Syncing two separate recordings isn’t practical. There will be times when the timing changes or one recording could simply be just a tiny bit slower than the other. You have to be listening to one of the recordings while playing to keep them in sync with each other. I suppose you could listen to the same music when recording your own track, but even then it may not work out. Even precision clocks vary if you check close enough. One of you needs to record his track and the other needs to make his track while listening to the track the other recorded. Then you can use a mixer to combine the tracks into one channel for whatever you want to record it on.

Can you rewire Fruity Loops into Propellerhead Record?

You want to record Fruity Loops into Propellerhead?

1, Loops set to play
2. Propellerhead in record mode
3. You’ll need to check Propellerhead audio record in puts, options and preference. It may have auxiliary in’s, you may need on. Then check the MultiMedia drivers and sound card options. As well as the Master volume on the taskbar record & properties plus check the wave, line in.

Check what driver your use using, this should be found in Propellerhead audio media drivers like 32bit or multimedia or you may have a list too choose from and need to swap to fix the problem.

Failing that, you could take the stereo line out from your sound card and plug back into the line in and record onto Propellerhead when you play back.
Always make sure all levels are down before using virtual and hard wear.

This may not be a fix but recording with computers is like a fail safe check list for a nuclear power plant.
