When Reason is in Rewire mode it should NOT allow you to connect directly with any USB or other audio interfaces. So, it’s doing what it is supposed to do.

Reason is the “Rewire Client”, and it is attached to Pro Tools which is the “Rewire Host”. Audio and Midi Stream back and forth between the Rewire Client and the Rewire Host.

In other words:
MIDI keyboard sending out MIDI notes—> Pro Tools Instrument Track —-> MIDI from Pro Tools goes to Reason via Rewire —-> Back fom Reason to Pro Tools Instrument track as Audio via Rewire —-> Out to your speakers/headphones

Here is a step by step tutorial including pictures for using Reason with Pro Tools..

Using Reason’s Virtual Instruments: Skill Pack

  • Pro Audio Textbook
  • By Matt Piper

What will distinguish the sounds you make in Reason from the rest of the crowd? One of the keys to mastering Reason lies in mastering its virtual instruments-the numerous customizable synths and sample players that come with the program. With these tools, a nearly limitless virtual studio is at your fingertips-but how do you maximize these instruments to their fullest potential? Using Reason’s Virtual Instruments: Skill Pack provides you the knowledge you need to freely express yourself with Reason, to get you out of the presets and into designing your own sounds. What may now appear to be an overwhelming jumble of virtual knobs, sliders, and buttons will soon become a finite and comfortable environment in which you can let your creativity soar. By the end of the book, you will know exactly what to do with every square inch of the Reason instruments. You will know what this or that knob does, and, when you adjust it to change sounds, you will understand why it changed. A key part of Using Reason’s Virtual Instruments: Skill Pack is the CD-ROM included with this book. It’s full of sample content for building your own NN-XT, NN-19, and Redrum patches. It also contains several finished patches for all the Reason instruments, as well as examples designed to allow you to check yourself as you progress through the various exercises. Unlike other books with companion discs, the source files on every Skill Pack CD-ROM are an essential part of the book’s tutorials-they are not there as mere examples, but are the building blocks from which you’ll construct the projects. The result is a fully integrated learning experience.

Is there any way to record using Reason 3.0 but with a guitar that doesn’t support midi?

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

Question by foxmulder66: Is there any way to record using Reason 3.0 but with a guitar that doesn’t support midi?
And if so, how can it happen?

Best answer:

Answer by QUESTION MOUSER
Hi Mulder,
Personally i would record my guitar (flat, no FX) with a microphone directly into my computer in .WAV file format, then copy-paste in the Reason 3.0 and add whatever FX you need. I’m giving you this solution because you do not give any more details (guitar amp.-preamp-wires ???).
I do not work with these virtual machines. I record my things in an external recording studio (zoom MRS series) then download the post production in my comp to finalize the file quality (.WAV at 1411 KBPS). Good luck !

HERE IS THE LINK TO THE FULL VIDEO: www.todaysbeats.net How’s it going partner? I’ve developed a new video training course on SPECIFICALLY BEATS. But the difference in this and the other tutorials, is that we get deep into the meat of the matter and really really dig into the heart of Beatmaking (DRUM PATTERN ESSENTIALS) discussing these topics in explicit detail. Most Important Aspect of Drum Rhythm in Hip Hop Drum Sample Quality Drum Sample, bit-rate frequency and pitch Samples, it’s Power!
